In the 2003 Domitor members questionnaire, a suggestion was made that the organization might maintain a database of early cinema that is readily available on DVD. Such a table would be useful for casual users, students, researchers, archivists and, especially, teachers.

This initiative has begun with the compilation of an index of five film collections, which resulting in a database of about 75 titles. The database is not intended to be a detailed archival index. For one thing, it relies on data supplied by the DVD producers, which may not be entirely accurate. It does, however, provide a handy guide to what is available. It a simple MS Word document, and each field (Title, Date, Archive, Music Accompaniment, etc.) may be sorted.

The Pilot Project was begun by Donald Crafton, but we need volunteers to continue it. There are many DVD collections yet to be indexed! Crafton will supply the template upon request for anyone who wishes to submit data for the project.

The material may come from any commercially available DVD, including from distributors and sets sold by archives. Private sets, for example, made by an individual made for personal use, or made by an archive for internal circulation only, will not be indexed.

The following five collections were chosen because they illustrate the range of material that is available:
